Haifa Lab for Religious Studies (HLRS)

The HLRS was founded in 2020 with a mission to formulate applied practices that can transform the role of religion in modern society, from a perceived vector of conflict, into proactive engine of civic cohesion. Drawing on academic expertise, religiously diverse members, and deep community partnerships, the HLRS designs applied programs that address the fault lines of Israel’s complex religious fabric. It serves not only as a centre for interreligious research but also as a hub for the formation of new religious leadership across Israel’s complex civic terrain. Unique in the world for its structure, output and impact, it works to three core operations:

  • Outreach Initiatives: with religious leaders, communities & stakeholders
  • Education & Dialogue: a range of academic programs and platforms
  • Research: a multitude of studies & inter-institutional collaborations to deepen understanding

Scholarships

Supporting our students reach their potential is one of the most impactful ways donors can benefit the University. Scholarships can be for undergraduate, Masters, PhD or postdoctoral students, and can be named in honour of the donor or a loved one. They can be purely merit-based, or restricted to certain groups, such as Arab/Palestinian/Druze/Ethiopian students, Ultra-Orthodox Jews, students in financial need, or by gender (if they are under-represented), in which case it would go to the best eligible student. They can be directed as specific courses or disciplines, or if PhD/Postdoc it may be possible to support students undertaking research in an area of interest.
